What I really learned while reading to my son.

Greetings my dear friends! It has been ages since I posted a video on here. Honestly, I need to do it more often since I love talking. Not to mention it's a nice departure from writing. I won't make it long, but I wanted to share a profound lesson I learned the other day from my 4 year old. I hope that it blesses you as well. Watch and enjoy! And if you've had a chance yet, make sure you subscribe to my YouTube page. I promise to bring you more videos :)

Dedicated- Renew Bath and Body Shop

Yummy treats for the senses at Renew Bath and Body

Hello my friends! I've been dying to post this entry all weekend, but wanted to make sure it was perfect. Western New York, if you're not familiar with this lovely store, let me introduce you to Renew Bath and Body here in Elmwood Village.
A gorgeous storefront welcomes you.
Renew Bath and Body at 927 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo NY 14222

I remember seeing this lovely storefront and was immediately interested because I absolutely adore all things bath and body. I finally had a chance to explore this establishment when I went shopping for a birthday present a few weeks ago. As soon as I walked in, the delicious and fragrant scents put me in a relaxed mood, not to mention the good music coming from overhead. It was the definition of ambiance. The displays of body scubs, bath bombs, soaps, body butters and other goodies screamed "buy me". How could I resist? I was greeted by the stores' owner, Tom Akers and his adorable pup Barbara Jean. Tom, his store manager, Ashley and the entire staff at Renew Bath and Body, run a tight ship. They are friendly, without being over bearing. And they are knowledgeable about the products that they sell and believe in. The in-store demos are a great help to see which products are best for you and you're about to sample a varieties of things. Oh and did I meant that these are all natural, chemical free products! Who doesn't love that?? Intrigued with what I was seeing and smelling, I had to know more. So I interviewed Tom to learn more about his shop, his vision and what Renew Bath and Body has in-store for Buffalo. Here's what he had to say:

Rich, natural soaps line the wall.
1. What was the inspiration for Renew? I have been a skin enthusiast my whole live and was raised by a family of hippies so we always made it our dinner conversations about natural remedies for the skin!!

2. What is your vision for Renew and what do you hope to bring to Elmwood Village & Buffalo? My vision for renew bath and body is to be the “go to” for skin education and start making renew private label items. Start having soap making classed, along with oils and lotions making classes! I hope to bring Elmwood Village Product lines that they would normally have to go to a mall to get and its my goal to make every citizen of Buffalo to smell good! I believe in order to be a city of neighbors you MUST smell good first!

3. What are some of your favorite items in the store? I am addicted to the Island Mango Moisturizing Wash, Milky Rich Face soap and any salt scrub I can get my hands on!

4. What are a few upcoming events taking place at Renew? renew bath and body Pre Holiday Party to show case our pre-made holiday baskets and gift boxes , roll out of our shaving section for men and a skin care line for men. We also have a variety of holiday events that go all the way thru end of December.
Showers gels are available too.
Are you all as excited about this place as I am? Not to mention the holiday baskets and gift boxes that are coming. If anyone out there is looking to gift me with something, please pick up a basket up for me. Nothing says loving like a gift box full of natural, great smelling bath and body products. And more then anything, I love the sense of community that this shop brings. When I stopped in a second time to pick up a little something for me, I found myself having a great conversation with Ashley about music, life and family. Its not just about the sale, its about creating a rapport with customers. Getting to know them and making the shopping experience as personal as possible in a short period of time. This is what supporting local is all about. The benefits to everyone as a whole is astounding and the main reason why I will always support businesses in my neighborhood.

Take your pick of custom soaps.

Well my friends, I've taken up enough of your time. Get out, go shop and check out Renew Bath and Body.

For more information on this lovely store you can visit them on the web at or you can find them on Facebook at

But I believe its best to just head on down and see for yourself. And as always my dears, enjoy!

Love Malinda xoxo

A Tokyo Girl At Heart: 2014 Baby Registry Picks

Hello friends! Is it just me or is everyone having a baby? Whether it's your sister-in-law, your co-worker or Princess Kate, the world seems to have baby fever. And with all those new little bundles coming, parties are being held to celebrate the joyous occasion. And where there are babies, there are gifts. So if you're still looking for some ideas of what these parents will need, then this list is for you.  And just recently having a baby of my own, I've got the inside scoop on what's new, hot and a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Here are some of my favorite baby registry pick for 2014.

1. Aden + Anais Swaddle Blankets
I absolutely LOVE this brand of swaddle blankets. Actually, I love this brand as a whole, but if I could pick just one product it would be this. Not only are they huge, but they become softer with every wash. Who doesn't love that. And if your child is not a fan of the swaddle, they can be used as a cover up, weather shields, blankets and nursing wraps.

2. 4moms Rockaroo
Now this is a cool pick. This sleek and stylish swing is streamlined, yet roomy for baby. It plays music from your own MP3 player and has original music of its own. The cool fabric print options will satisfy any parents' sense of style. And the 5 way motion will relax any baby. A must have.

3. Vulli Sophie the Giraffe Teether
Look who made the list again. Good old Sophie. I can't say enough about this product. Not only is it eco-friendly, but its so accessible to your baby 5 senses without being over stimulating. This is a classic registry must have.

4. Graco Snugride Elite Seat Carrier
Now I have to give credit to my girlfriend Rebecca for recommending this a few years ago. This is the latest version of the lightweight, compact travel stroller. Snap your infant car seat on and you're ready to go. This screams "on the go" must have.

5. Burt's Bees Baby Sweet Memories Gift Set
Another eco-friendly, all natural option. This time for bath and diapering. I'm a big fan of Burt's Bee lip products, so when I saw this for baby, I jumped on it. Affordable and sweet to the senses, this pick is a win-win.

6. Boon Lawn Countertop Drying Rack
I remember the first time I saw this product and thought to myself, "What the hell is that?" But I will say, it serves its purpose. This space saving drying rack is modern and practical. Plus, its a conversation starter too.

7. Angelcare Bath Support
This is a really nice pick for infants. This easy to store bath accessory makes bathing comfortable for your little one. And the three color option and easy clean up is great.

8. Rock-a-bye Baby Lullaby Series
I adore these CDs. I've had them ever since Masaya was born and have purchased new editions over the years. These lullaby renditions of your favorite bands sooth not only baby, but any listener.

9. Baby Lit Board Book Series
These board books are adorable. They take classic literary pieces, such as Romeo and Juliet or Dracula, and create basic learning fundamentals for little ones. They focus on colors, counting and other skills. Plus they are too cute.

10. Diapers, diapers, diapers!!!!
What registry would be complete without diapers. Although the other nine picks are great to have, diapers are a MUST! Whether you're using cloth or disposable, please make sure you put them and wipes on your list.

Well my friends, I could go on and on, but I think I've left you with enough. Did your favorites make the list this year and is there a must have that you would totally recommend? Leave me a note in the comment section. I still have quite a bit left on my own registry, so check it out for more ideas or if there are any generous readers out there, feel free to purchase away, I would greatly appreciate it :)

Be Blessed and happy shopping!

10 Reasons Why I LOVE the Back to School Season

Hello there friends! Hope all of you are happy and well. Here in the northeast of America, our children have finally returned to school. So as this first week of school comes to a close, I just want to share with you my love for this time of year. Here's a countdown of ten reasons why I love the back to school season. Let's go!!!

10. Shopping for new school clothes. As a child, I could not wait to go school shopping. The feel of a new shirt or fresh smell of new Nikes always put me in a good mood. And it holds true now that I have my own children. Sending Masaya in new, clean clothes gives me a sense of pride.

9. Shopping for school supplies. Is shopping a theme here?? No, but getting that list and trying to find the best deals was always fun. And in my opinion, it should become an Olympic sport along with coupon cutting.

8. Going back to school is a sign that fall is coming. Autumn is indeed my favorite time of year. And going back to school was a signal that fall was just around the corner.

7. It's a fresh start. No matter how the last school year ended, September was a time to start over. Even if my good intentions only lasted until the middle of October, I still started out on a good note.

6. Reuniting with your old crew. Now, obviously this does not apply if you moved to a new place. But, reuniting with my friends was a hoot. Did I just say hoot? Wow, how old am I??

5. Time away from home. As a parent this has become a luxury. Sending my child off to school and having a break is like a dream come true. But it's also good for him as well. To be on his own without me, even for a few hours, helps to create self confidence and independence.

4. Reinforced early bedtimes and other restrictions. Now this one is all for the parents. Summer brings longer days and more activities. So naturally, I allowed Masaya to stay up longer and later. He was able to eat lots of junk food, watch tons of TV and basically could have the run if the house. I mean, he worked hard, he earned it. But once school started back, in bed by 8:30pm, only Japanese TV during the week and no iPod or iPad until the weekend. I run a tight ship.

3. The return of American football.
I'm not the biggest football fan. But I love the start of the new season. So much hope that our teams will do well...not to mention the tailgating.

 2. Pumpkin Spiced Lattes are Back! I'm not a big coffee drinker at all. Honestly, I don't even really like coffee. But as soon as I see that sign in Starbucks, I go get in line.

1. Focusing on Education. And the main reason I love this time so much is that I know my child is in an environment solely to learn. Not just acedemically, but socially as well. Knowing that he and so many other children are in place that only helps them to be better, well...that's something to love.

Here's to an amazing school year for all you students and teachers out there!
